TrojanUV

Municipal UV Technology & Advanced Oxidation Systems

TrojanUV

TrojanUV logo

There are over 11,000 municipal TrojanUV system installations across 100 countries, with a collective flow rate of over 70 billion gallons every day. This is the largest municipal UV installation base in the world.

Protecting and Preserving our Environment

The final step in the municipal wastewater treatment process is UV Treatment. UV Treatment is required to reduce and destroy the microorganism populations in the wastewater before discharge into the receiving body of water.

How UV Light Treats Wastewater

UV light provides rapid, effective inactivation of microorganisms through a physical process. When microorganisms are exposed to germicidal wavelengths of UV light, they are instantaneously rendered incapable of reproducing and infecting. The process adds nothing to the water but UV light, has no impact on chemical composition or dissolved oxygen content, and does not create by-products.

TrojanUV Systems for Wastewater

TrojanUV systems are used in many applications, including primary, secondary, tertiary, and stormwater/combined sewer overflow effluent.

UV Treatment for Municipal Drinking Water

UV Inactivation is the final, critical step in the treatment of drinking water. If untreated and ingested, drinking water containing microorganisms can cause severe, even fatal, health conditions.

UV treatment helps to provide water confidence to the full range of public water systems, from large municipalities to very small drinking water systems around the world. UV is often paired with chlorine in drinking water applications, enabling robust, multi-barrier protection.

TrojanUV drinking water systems are installed at plants around the world to help provide multi-barrier protection against chlorine-resistant Cryptosporidium and Giardia.

TrojanUV Systems for Remediation

Drinking water sources we rely upon every day are increasingly at risk of chemical contamination.

These contaminants may come directly from human sources such as industrial manufacturing, agricultural run-off and wastewater discharge, or they may originate from natural sources, such as the taste and odor-causing chemicals in water generated by algae and bacteria blooms.

UV advanced oxidation (also known as UV AOP) is an established technology for the remediation of contaminants in groundwater and surface water. TrojanUV advanced oxidation systems have been installed around the world to treat a variety of contaminants.

UV Advanced Oxidation for Water Reuse

Meeting the demand for clean water has never been more challenging. Communities around the world are facing a growing water stress – an insufficient supply, in terms of water quality or water quantity – and often both. Climate change, growing populations, aging infrastructure, and natural and man-made contaminants are contributing factors making it challenging for municipalities to meet the increasing demands for clean water.

Available surface water sources are declining and over-pumping of groundwater beyond natural recharge rates is lowering water tables, increasing groundwater salinity and depleting ground water sources.

Reuse

Efficient Water Reuse is Critical

Many water providers are turning to reuse as the solution to their water supply and quality challenges.

Water reuse can help municipalities:

  • Secure future supply throughout unpredictable environmental effects, such as extended droughts
  • Keep local control of their water supply to reduce dependence on costly imported water
  • Protect natural resources by reducing withdrawals from aquifers and other natural water sources
